Historically, gun sights used to be some version of lining up a front and rear sight to hit your target. Later, rifle scopes were added to provide accuracy at longer distances. Both took longer to acquire the target and shoot. Red-dot optics were designed to improve CQB target acquisition times on the battlefield out to two hundred yards when fractions of a second matter between being alive or being dead.
